Historical
     Vajira Hospital was founded in 2 January 1912 in accordance with the wishes of The King Mongkut VI (Vajiravudh) to provide health care services for Thais in the Northern part of Bangkok and located in area once called “Himmapan Forest”. King Mongkut VI also donated money from his private funds for the establishment.

     In 1996, BMA (Bangkok Metropolitan Administration) Medical College was established to provide medical education rather than health service in cooperation with Vajira Hospital. Later on in 2001, BMA Medical College has merged with Vajira Hospital to perform unity in health care services and education. Providing the health services, education, clinical research and a referral center for remote hospital,  Vajira Hospital is one of the 9 hospitals of Medical Service Department, BMA.

     24 hours of high quality medical services and comprehensive tertiary care are attended by qualified medical specialists and workforce with modern technology. Vajira also provides special medical care centers, such as Cardiac center, Kidney center, Cancer center and Trauma center. An active 24-hour Emergency Room is fully equipped with life saving equipment in conjunction with S.M.A.R.T (emergency medical service) to provide on-scene emergency treatment by ambulance and ambulance boat by qualified medical specialists, well trained nurses and ancillary staff.

     Health care services and medical education are conducted by 2,335 staffs  which consisted of 236 physicians, 920 nurses in a variety of medical subspecialties. The hospital has  799 beds, with occupancy rate 77.28%, and 50 beds of 8 ICU (MICU,MCCU, PICU,NICU,SICU, NSICU, SCCU, EMICU). The services are responsible for 6 main areas of Bangkok Metropolis (Talingchan, Bang Seu, Dusit, Bang Plad, Bangkok Noi and Tawee Watana). There are more than 500,000 visits and 27,000 cases of OPD and IPD per year respectively. Apart from service official time, we provide services for morning clinics at 06.00-08.00 am., and extended OPD at 16.00-20.00 pm. from Monday to Friday and 08.00-12.00 am. on Saturday.   

    To increase the number of medical doctors to satisfy the public’s demands,  for more than 10 years, this  medical school has provided society with 326 medical doctors who are not only highly qualified and well trained  but also ethical and moral.   In addition, it strongly advocates research into  a  wide variety of medicine, promotes advancement in medical sciences and urban medicine. Except for our treatment  services to the public, Vajira Hospital  also provides 8 specialties training, programs (OB-GYN, Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Family-Medicine, Emergency Medicine , ENT) and supplies medical personnel specialized in the field of cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, gynecological malignancy  fellowship.  Vajira Hospital has been a center of academic excellence in many subspecialties, such as Cardiac center, Trauma center and Cancer center.

     In the year 2008, we are going to cerebrate our 96th anniversary of establishment.
